20 Free (or Low-Cost) Activities for Spring Break

  1. Day trip: Jump in the car and go explore another nearby city

  2. Go to a coffee shop! Bring books/magazines and get some hot cocoa

  3. Take a hike at a local or state park

  4. Create a scavenger hunt in your house, neighborhood or community.

  5. Explore a public museum. Lots of public museums offer free days!

  6. Have a “spa day” — soak feet in warm water, give mani/pedis and slice cucumbers to give each other mini-facials.

  7. Library: Besides finding great books, many libraries offer free events.

  8. Plan a slumber party or camp out in your living room or basement

  9. Create a food tour (examples are bakery, taco, pizza). Pick 2-3 restaurants and then walk, drive or take the bus to each place and sample the food. Keep this low-cost by selecting cheaper restaurants and splitting the meals- you only need a sample on a tour!

  10. Movie marathon at your house

  11. Arts and crafts - go to a thrift store, craft store or just look through the house and create some arts/crafts with the kids. Look at Pinterest for inspiration or let the items you find lead the creative process.

  12. Create a play or puppet show. Invite friends over for the performance.

  13. Set up a play-date exchange with another family. They can watch your kids for a few hours and then you can watch all the kids another day.

  14. Go to the park & bring a picnic.

  15. Bake some cookies, rice krispies or bread. Deliver some to a friend or neighbor to help you get out of the house.

  16. Home Depot kid’s workshop

  17. Community concert

  18. Make each day a specially themed day and come up with activities to go along with that theme (Examples: Taco Tuesday; Pajama Thursday; Artsy Friday)

  19. Child-led activity (ask your kids what they want to do and follow their lead)

  20. Play games— card games, board games, video games, even Hide and Seek.
